Job Description

OUR MISSION

Movement Schools is a growing network of free, public charter schools. We exist to love and value scholars and communities by leading a movement of excellence in education. In partnership with our families, we equip our scholars with the tools to close generational gaps through self-efficacy, access to world-class instruction, and financial education.

About This Role

Build Strong Bodies, Minds, and Character.

We are seeking a passionate, energetic, and mission-aligned K-5 Health & Physical Education Teacher to join our Georgia school community. This role is ideal for educators who believe elementary physical education is more than activity — it is a daily opportunity to build scholar confidence, teamwork, perseverance, and lifelong wellness habits during the years that movement habits are formed.

As a K-5 Health & PE Teacher, you will design and lead high-quality, standards-aligned instruction that engages every elementary scholar, regardless of athletic background. You’ll create an inclusive, structured, and joyful environment where K-5 scholars develop foundational motor skills, health knowledge, social-emotional skills, and a love for movement. When not in session with scholars, you will support school-wide operations to keep our campus running smoothly.

What You’ll Do

You’ll lead instruction that develops the whole scholar — mind, body, and character.

As a K-5 Health & Physical Education Teacher, you will:

  • Plan and deliver standards-aligned K-5 Health & PE instruction grounded in the SHAPE America National Standards and the Georgia Standards of Excellence for Health and Physical Education

  • Build foundational physical literacy in K-5 scholars through developmentally appropriate instruction in gross motor skills, locomotor patterns, manipulative skills, fitness concepts, cooperative games, and beginning team and individual activities

  • Deliver age-appropriate health education content as part of Georgia’s combined Health & PE program

  • Create a structured, safe, and inclusive environment where every scholar can participate and grow

  • Embed character development, teamwork, leadership, and perseverance into daily lessons

  • Assess scholar growth using fitness benchmarks, skill rubrics, and other formative tools

  • Differentiate instruction to support scholars with diverse abilities, including those with IEPs and 504 plans

  • Maintain equipment, facilities, and safety protocols in alignment with school and state standards

  • Support school-wide culture, arrival/dismissal duties, transitions, and family engagement events

  • Participate in coaching cycles, professional development, and grade-level planning

  • Support school-wide operations during non-instructional blocks — including arrival and dismissal duties, lunch and recess coverage, hallway transitions, family engagement events, and other operational needs as assigned

  • Build strong relationships with scholars, families, and staff

Who We’re Looking For

We’re looking for a passionate, creative, and mission-aligned educator who brings their content area to life for every scholar.

You’ll thrive in this role if you:

  • Believe in the potential of every scholar and are committed to equity

  • Bring energy, creativity, and joy to your classroom every day

  • Are reliable, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities

  • Communicate clearly and build positive relationships with scholars, families, and adults

  • Are coachable, reflective, and open to feedback

  • Thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment

Required Qualifications

Your background and credentials meet Georgia's requirements to lead a Health & PE program.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health & Physical Education, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or a related field from an accredited college or university

  • Valid Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) Induction, Professional, or Provisional certificate in Health and Physical Education (P–12) — OR eligibility to obtain through GaPSC Pathway 1–4, including the GaTAPP (Georgia Teacher Academy of Preparation and Pedagogy) alternative pathway

  • Passing score on the GACE Health and Physical Education content assessment, or willingness to obtain prior to certification

  • Passing score on the GACE Ethics for Teachers Assessment

  • Compliance with GaPSC Rule 505-2-.42 — a valid Georgia Clearance Certificate (required for all charter school educators with direct student contact)

  • Completion of an FBI fingerprint-based criminal background check as required for employment in Georgia public, private, and charter schools

  • Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain prior to start)

  • Commitment to Movement Schools' mission, values, and high expectations for all scholars

Preferred Qualifications

Experience or training that supports your readiness for a specialist role is a plus.

  • Prior teaching experience in an elementary (K-5) school setting

  • Experience coaching youth sports, after-school athletics, or community recreation programs

  • Training in adapted physical education or working with scholars with diverse needs

  • Familiarity with FitnessGram or similar fitness assessment tools

  • ESOL endorsement or experience supporting multilingual learners

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus

Why You’ll Love Working at Movement

You'll be part of a mission-driven team making a meaningful difference every day.

  • Mission-driven work: Support scholars, families, and educators in meaningful ways

  • Coaching & development: Receive targeted feedback and ongoing professional growth

  • Specialist autonomy: Lead a content area that builds scholar identity and joy

  • Collaborative culture: Join a team committed to scholar success

  • Strong systems: Teach inside a network with clear expectations and instructional support

Compensation & Schedule

This full-time role aligns with the academic calendar and provides meaningful work in a purpose-driven environment.

  • Starting Salary: $55,000 (salary is based on experience, education and certification)

  • Employment Type: Full-Time

  • Reports To: Principal / Assistant Principal

  • FLSA Status: Exempt

  • Benefits: Comprehensive benefits package available for eligible employees

  • Schedule: Follows the academic calendar with pre-scheduled summer responsibilities for planning and preparation

  • Additional Commitments: Occasional evenings or weekends for family engagement and school events

Our Commitment

We’re committed to building a diverse, inclusive, and welcoming school community for all.

Movement Schools is an equal opportunity employer committed to building a diverse, inclusive, and welcoming school community. We value the backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives of our team members and encourage candidates of all backgrounds to apply.

Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of required background checks in accordance with N.C.G.S. §§ 115C-218.90 and 115C-332.

Ready to Take the Next Step?

If you’re ready to bring movement, joy, and excellence to scholars at our Georgia campuses, we’d love to hear from you.
