Job Summary

The Recreation Supervisor of High School Athletics plays a pivotal role in supporting Milwaukee Public Schools¿ (MPS) extensive network of interscholastic athletic programs. Primary responsibilities include coordinating event ticket scheduling, hiring and managing event support staff, assigning officials, tracking participation, purchasing supplies, and providing on-site supervision of athletic events.

MPS offers a diverse range of high school athletic programs, with 12 sports¿including baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track &; field, wrestling, volleyball, as well as cheerleading¿available annually across its network of 21 high schools. Over 5,200 student athletes actively participate in these programs, contributing to the vibrancy and competitive spirit of MPS athletics.

Salary Range: $73,000 - $83,000.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with Interscholastic Athletics and Academics event logistics including: ticketing, event staff supervision, officials assigning/training, tracking participation, and compliance with Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association requirements.
  • Conduct regular site visits (evenings and occasional weekends) to determine program effectiveness and provide feedback and support to part-time staff.
  • Assists with inquiries and correspondence associated with Interscholastic Athletic programs.
  • Develops a connection between high school and youth sports programs to strengthen a continuum of sports from elementary to high school levels.
  • Assists in creating professional service contracts to support athletic facility maintenance, content management systems, athletic equipment and repair, and other athletic needs.
  • Manages the inventory of district purchased athletic equipment and conducts site visits to assess athletic facility/equipment repair/maintenance needs.
  • Attends required meetings.
  • Uphold and enforce conference rules to maintain a safe environment.
  • Assists with the purchase of equipment and supplies.
  • Assists with Interscholastic Academic (Forensics, Debate and Chess) programs including hiring, payment processing, manual creation/distribution and postseason tournaments.
  • Assists with Milwaukee City Conference branding, marketing and public relations including social media accounts, special student-athlete video features, All City Conference teams, All Academic teams.
  • Provides operational and program support to the Interscholastic Athletics and Academics team.
  • Assists with Recreation Department activities as needed.
  • Serves on various athletic, community or Department committees as required and/or assigned.
  • Actively supports the MPS Five Priorities for Success.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor¿s degree is preferred from an accredited college or university in sports management, recreation, education, physical education, or related field. ;
    • A combination of education and experience will be considered: May substitute two years of experience for one year of education (a minimum of 9 years of experience without a bachelor's; a minimum of 5 years with an associate's).
  • Minimum 1 year of full-time experience or equivalent in planning, coordinating, and implementing youth or high school athletic programs. Equivalent part-time experience and/or relevant certifications will be considered.
  • Supervision of part-time staff.
  • Experience delivering services in an urban environment preferred.
