Job Description and Duties

The Department of Water Resources’ (Department) Internal Audit Office (IAO) provides independent, objective assurance and consulting activities designed to add value. The IAO helps the Department accomplish its objectives by using a systematic and disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the Department’s system of internal controls.

Under the general direction of the Manager, Internal Audit Office, the Staff Management Auditor (Specialist) will perform at the advanced journey level a variety of complex audit engagements, reviews, special assignments and/or investigations, such as technical, financial, compliance and management audits, also assessment of internal controls for the Department and its programs. The responsibility may extend outside the Department to the examination of cost records of local governments, independent contractors, utility companies, and public or private organizations who have contracts or grants with the Department. The incumbent is responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating, evaluating through reporting of all assignments.

  • Experience in conducting risk assessment a must
  • Experience in assessing effectiveness of internal controls a must
  • Experience in developing Audit Programs, testing procedures and getting management’s buy-in on recommendations a must
  • Experience in performing IT audits, compliance audits, contracting/grants audits preferred
  • Ability to exercise sound professional judgment and analyzing complex situations accurately
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with others to complete assignments
  • Require highest level of integrity
  • Experience in providing timely and clear communications to Management such as reports and presentations.
  • Database/Systems Experience a plus
