Job Description

Join a boutique law firm located in the South Bay (Torrance) that specializes in Complex Business, Commercial, and Real Estate Litigation. This firm regularly handles high-stakes disputes involving partners, LLC members, shareholders, and other sophisticated commercial matters. Unlike many firms, this is not insurance defense - the work is diverse, challenging, and provides associates with early courtroom exposure, direct client interaction, and meaningful strategic responsibilities. This is an excellent opportunity to grow your litigation career in a collaborative environment that offers hands-on training, mentorship, and real responsibility on substantive cases.

Position Overview: The firm is seeking a motivated Litigation Associate Attorney with 2 to 3 years of experience to join their team. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, eager to advance their skills, and ready to handle depositions, motions, and trial preparation while engaging directly with clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Meet a 1600 billable hour requirement.
  • Draft and argue motions, pleadings, and discovery.
  • Conduct depositions and assist in witness preparation.
  • Perform legal research and prepare analyses on complex issues.
  • Manage discovery, including reviewing and analyzing documents.
  • Participate in mediations, hearings, and trial preparation.
  • Communicate directly with clients, experts, and opposing counsel.
  • Collaborate closely with partners and associates in a team-focused environment.

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active California Bar membership.
  • 2-3 years of litigation experience in a California law firm (business, commercial, or real estate litigation preferred).
  • Experience entering billable time concurrent with work in a billing system.
  • Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
  • Courtroom experience (motions, depositions, trial prep) is a plus.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Team-oriented, proactive, and able to work independently.

Compensation

  • Salary Range: $140,000 - $160,000 base for 2-3 years of experience.

Why This Role?

  • Exposure to complex, high-stakes litigation from day one
  • Early opportunities to take depositions, argue motions, and engage with clients
  • Personalized mentorship and training to develop your litigation skills
  • Supportive, collegial small-firm environment with meaningful growth potential
  • Flexible hybrid remote/on-site work arrangement in Torrance, CA
