Job Description
Salary: $123,000 - 163,000 per year Requirements:
- We require a BS/BA degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- We are looking for 8+ years of professional data engineering experience with a proven record of delivering production-grade data platforms end to end.
- We need deep PostgreSQL expertise, including schema design, indexing, performance tuning, partitioning, logical replication, JSONB, extensions such as pg_partman, pg_cron, and pgvector, plus operating Postgres at scale.
- We expect strong experience designing and running data pipelines, including file-based ingestion via SFTP or object storage drops and API-based ingestion through REST or webhooks.
- We need hands-on experience with dbt or a comparable SQL transformation framework, along with modern data modeling approaches such as Kimball dimensional models, Data Vault, and One Big Table.
- We require practical experience with at least one cloud platform, preferably AWS, and its core data services such as S3 and managed Postgres.
- We are looking for experience designing data warehouses and/or data lakes, with sound judgment on which architecture best fits a given use case.
- We need experience with at least one orchestration tool such as Dagster, Prefect, or Airflow, plus a clear perspective on when to use each.
- We require familiarity with data validation and data quality tools such as Great Expectations, Pandera, or Soda.
- We expect experience with change-data-capture from Postgres, including logical replication or an equivalent approach.
- We value data governance experience in a HIPAA-regulated environment, or at minimum strong instincts for protecting PHI and PII through encryption, least privilege, auditability, de-identification, and BAA-aware vendor selection; HITRUST or SOC 2 experience is a strong advantage.
- We are looking for experience supporting ML workloads.
- We value experience using AI coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Claude to speed up development.
- We need strong Python skills for ingestion, validation, and internal tooling.
- We expect comfort with infrastructure as code and CI/CD for data systems.
Responsibilities: - We will have you design and own our end-to-end data architecture, including the landing zone, secure cloud object storage for raw partner files and API payloads, validated ingestion into transactional Postgres, and a curated analytics layer that separates reporting and AI workloads from production.
- You will build ingestion pipelines for current data sources, including partner files such as CSV, JSON, XML, HL7, and X12 where applicable, as well as REST and SFTP integrations with schema checks, bad-record quarantine, and full lineage from raw input to curated output.
- You will operate the curated layer, or data warehouse/lakehouse-lite, so analytics and machine learning models can access data without impacting transactional performance.
- You will select, integrate, and manage the leanest effective toolset, including object storage, an orchestration platform, dbt or a similar transformation framework, and a single data validation library.
- You will design and enforce governance controls for a HIPAA-regulated environment, including PHI/PII classification, encryption, role-based access, audit logging, retention rules, minimum-necessary policies, and de-identification where appropriate.
- You will partner with backend, ML, product, and clinical stakeholders to define data contracts with our health plan and ACO partners and maintain strong data quality standards.
- You will build and maintain reliable feature data for machine learning models, including embeddings and curated feature tables for risk stratification, engagement, and outcomes initiatives.
- You will instrument our data platform for observability, including pipeline SLAs, freshness checks, schema-drift detection, quality metrics, and actioning insights from monitoring.
- You will participate fully in our Agile process, including backlog refinement, sprint planning, demos, and retrospectives.
