Veterinary Assistant, Oncology 
Location: Waukesha, WI
Schedule: Full Time | First Shift | 4 Ten Hour Shifts Per Week | No Weekends | Some Holiday Shifts Required
Compensation: $16.50/hr +, Dependent On Experience

In your day-to-day, you will:
  • Obtain patient vitals, recognize abnormalities, and promptly communicate findings to the CVT and/or Veterinarian.
  • Collect diagnostic samples and perform non-laboratory diagnostics (e.g., blood pressure, ECG, SpO₂) to support patient assessment and treatment planning.
  • Safely restrain patients for examinations, diagnostic imaging, venipuncture, and other procedures.
  • Assist with the placement and maintenance of intravenous catheters.
  • Prepare for, assist with, and clean up after diagnostic and anesthetic procedures, including biopsies, CT scans, tube placements, and other specialty procedures.
  • Support CVTs and Veterinarians during chemotherapy administration, sedation, anesthesia, surgical procedures, patient recovery, and accurate medical documentation.
  • Collect, properly handle, and submit diagnostic samples, including biopsy specimens, to outside laboratories.
  • Assist with new patient and recheck appointments by preparing patients, supporting the medical team, and ensuring efficient appointment flow.
  • Accurately obtain medical histories and communicate patient information between clients and the medical team using appropriate veterinary terminology.
  • Maintain complete, accurate medical records and utilize the hospital's electronic practice management system to access and document patient information.
  • Prepare patients for discharge by filling prescribed medications, removing IV catheters, reviewing discharge instructions with pet owners, and ensuring patients are comfortable before going home.
  • Deliver professional, compassionate communication and exceptional client service throughout every patient interaction.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked treatment area by restocking supplies and assisting with inventory management.
  • Follow OSHA standards, hospital safety protocols, and all required training to promote a safe environment for patients, clients, and team members.
  • Foster a collaborative, positive team environment by supporting colleagues and conducting yourself with professionalism every shift.

What You Bring:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.  

  • Ability to work in a team environment by taking direction and assisting other medical team members. 

  • Ability to work independently and perform self directed tasks to support the team.   

  • Exemplifies a strong work ethic and positive attitude. 

  • Highly recommended –  3 years of experience in a veterinary setting. 

  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written 

  • Organizational skills 

  • Proactive thinking and the right attitude
  • Fluent English skills (speaking & reading) are required for the role; fluency in multiple languages a plus.

WVRC is a 24/7 Emergency and Specialty Animal Hospital, dedicated to providing patients, clients, and referring veterinarians with the highest quality emergency and specialty veterinary medical care.  The successful candidate will work closely with our board-certified Oncologists and Certified Technicians to provide high-quality care to patients going through various stages of cancer diagnosis and treatment.
